Student/Parent Guidelines for
Recitals & Competitions

Teachers: It is the duty of the teacher to ensure that students and their parents have read and understand the rules outlined on this page. Download/print the file below and have students and parents sign it after reading the content.

PLEASE NOTE: Students and parents SHOULD NOT contact a Program Coordinator or Board Member directly regarding branch matters. Please follow the appropriate line of communication by directing all matters to your teacher, who will, in turn, contact the branch.
Guidelines for the Performer
· Please check the calendar before making the commitment to participate in an event.
· If unable to attend, please notify the teacher as soon as possible so that he/she may notify the Program Coordinator.
· NO PHOTOCOPIES of musical scores will be allowed for performance under any circumstance. This includes accompanistsʼ scores and scores provided for adjudicators. (Theme Festival - One copy of the score MUST be provided for the adjudicators.)
· Performers should dress according to branch rules. See DRESS CODE below for specific details.
· Performers should arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the beginning of the program and should be seated in their designated seating area, not with parents or other family members.
· Performers are to remain seated for the duration of the program and cannot leave early. Programs will begin on time and last approximately one hour.
· EXCEPTION: At the Theme Festival, there is no separate designated seating area, and students may sit with family members. Students must arrive before their performance time but are not required to remain for the duration of the program.
Guidelines for the Audience
· No talking or visiting with friends during performances.
· No entering or exiting the venue in the middle of a performance. Enter/Exit only during applause.
· No children under the age of 4 permitted in the performance venue during judged events.
· No photography or filming of any type during performance. Photographs may be taken at the conclusion of recitals.
· Cell phones and tablet computers are not to be used in any manner during the duration of the program. All sound-making devices must be silenced.
· Absolutely NO FOOD is allowed in the performance venue.
DRESS CODE
BOYS: Dress shirt – Shirts must have buttons all the way down the front and must be buttoned and tucked in. Denim or polo shirts
are not acceptable. Suits and ties are suggested, but not required.
Dress pants –No jeans, cargo pants or shorts or any kind.
Dress shoes – No sneakers or sandals.
GIRLS: Dress or skirt & blouse – No pants or culottes/skorts. No overly revealing outfits (e.g. miniskirts, high slits, plunging
necklines). No casual t-shirts or denim of any kind.
Dress shoes – No sneakers, slippers, platform shoes or high boots.
All students and audience members are expected to adhere to the above guidelines. Failure to comply will result in the assessment of a $15.00 fine. Fines must be paid (or a written appeal submitted) within 14 days of issuance. In the case of a judged event, infringement of the rules may result in disqualification for the student. Repeated offense will also lead to the student not being allowed to participate in the event.
